SegFest 2K3!
Pre fun fun.
It has started. SegFest 2K3
is rolling together. Early riders poke into ChiTown's local attractions.
Bentley rolls. That's Bently in front
of McCormick Place. Bentley and I glid to within sight of that
large puddle nearby but I had to turn back for voltage reasons.
(Translation: Lake Michigan spotted but batt in danger of causing
walk.)
Corey's corner
HT Kid, Corey Brown, reinvents and updates
the picket fence effect:
The kid thing. It's his JOB to explore
fences by hand. The p133 proves to be the best tool for the job.
With new friend Preston, Corey demonstrates
"The Blur" a move all pre-teens are required to master.
Exhausted, (the p133, not Corey) a break
is in order. Name of the shot: Segway Akimbo.
Segway nears speed of light. In this
case, 1/2 second. (Photographer in-joke due to the way-past-sunset
exposure.)
McCormick place invaded.
You're not going to believe this, but
the gathering all takes place in this very slice-of-pie shaped
building. This is perhaps the sharpest building in Chicago. So
to speak. That's the Hyatt on the right. Fortunately the building
is wider where all the action is.
More pix:
Yeah, that's the Kamen in the background,
but hold on there: Who's the hot F.I.R.S.T mentor on the left?
And is she in the Theatah?
That WOZ! He still blasts through ideas
at machine gun speed. Open this in a separate window to get a
better feel for the animation...
Up and Down, High and Low, Blue and
Orange. The contrasts were unavoidable.
Just one more Mr. Kamen. Poor guy had
to stand there like this for over an hour...
The Pre-Kamens. Two of the realest people
you could ever meet. Two kids in love, really...
Just before disaster struck (many balls
were killed), things were going so well.
The last night glide. Blue halos (for
us halo-heads) courtesy of Doug Field. (nose, upper left)
Corey and Brown entourage. Jeff (dad
and master Seg tech) and Dana (uncle and master IT guy).
"See, here's where you failed to
plant your weight evenly after leaving the ski-jump..."
(Energy Analysis booth)
Frank Tropea and family. (Frank's on
the left.)
"I tried this for a while, but
still, no flying occured. Then I started really looking at 'the
wheel' as an alternative." Dean relates stories of creativity
and technical options...

"As I look out on this sea of bright
and gliding faces..." Doug Field takes questions from a
crowd that --let's face it-- is already on his side.
A-HA! Just the balls needed for SegPolo
to be played at SegFest Houston.
