The Neuristic Euphemia Foundation is designed to balance ham-handedly the efforts of people who wish to banish the Segway Human Transporter from our cities. In a potentially karmic sense, NEF is an equal and opposite force, drawing upon equally valid reasons to exist, except for two significant differences, NEF depends on no actual physical mechanism in the world to rail against, nor does fighting NE cause harm to those who don't wish to fight NE. And in a twist of both fate and definition, Anti-Segway Lobbying is itself a form of Neuristic Euphemia, being an exercise in turning irrational fears into comfortable pseudo-solutions instead of investigating, understanding and experiencing the fearful neuristic trigger in an effort to know what is real about it. For example: The ladies above, protesting outside the San Francisco Supervisor's offices in August 2002 had never touched, experienced or understood anything about the Segway except from things that they had been told by others. Is that a way to express one's personal convictions by taking responsibility for one's thoughts and conclusions, or is it an expression of jumping to inappropriate conclusions? You decide. |
