Nikon Revolution?

Or is it a rumor that has died under its own weight?

Nikon's stunning D3X / D3H duo is imminent. So said a bunch of folks recently on the various forums. Both cameras will debut weeks or months apart, either this Spring at PMA or shortly after, or at the Photokina Show in September, or shortly after. Insiders at Nikon are certain the camera will be on dealer's shelves by 2008.

Both models will offer advanced professional features (and prices) ranging from $3,800 US to just a hair over $7,000 US, and neither model will ship with a lens unless you ask them to--and pay extra. There's always a catch!

Weighing between 820 and 1460 grams, each camera body is powered by electrical batteries and features an image chip, shutter release, monitor screen, more buttons here and there, and several switches. Media will be used to store images.

Speculation has raged around the Nikon community wondering exactly which features are in, and what the specs are.

Here's what we know for sure:

Body Design:

The picture everybody is passing around (above) is doubtless a fake. Probably ripped from some D2X review site (apologies to the original photographer) and fluffed up with a 3 where the 2 used to live. The chances of this being real falls in the sub 1% zone.

Motor Drive:

No details.

Features:

Rumor rumor, guess speculate suspect imagine conjecture. Only time will tell.

More sooner or later.
